Bio

Ms. Gibson is the Director of Professional Development in the Department of Health Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University.  She began her career in healthcare as a nurse, graduating from Johnston-Willis Hospital School of Nursing.  She later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management and a Master of Science in Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Ms. Gibson teaches HADM 682 “Executive Skills I” and coordinates the Administrative Residency Program of the Graduate Program in Health Administration. 

Ms. Gibson has been involved in healthcare for more than 25 years in the Richmond, Virginia area.  After working as a nurse at Johnston-Willis Hospital, she made her way into the Nurse Executive role at HCA, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital.  Ms. Gibson worked as an independent consultant, and then moved into a Nurse Executive role at Bon Secours, St. Mary’s Hospital.  She then served as Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for 8 years at Mary Washington Hospital, Medicorp Health System, in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  Ms. Gibson is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds office and memberships in many healthcare, nursing and community organizations.  In 2003, she was awarded the Nancy Vance Nursing Excellence Award, Virginia Nurses Association.
