Executive Fellowship in Patient Safety
Testimonials
"The patient safety fellowship provides an excellent foundation for learning about the complexities of analyzing, developing, and initiating innovative multidisciplinary approaches to address our dangerous healthcare environment. As a direct result of the fellowship, I shifted my career trajectory from healthcare leadership to academia. Through moving patient safety agenda into academia and then curriculum the professional development of our future generations might be positively impacted. Since my arrival at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, we are actively developing and submitting patient safety research grants with a “trandisciplinary” focus. In addition, the fellowship influenced my present doctoral interests in patient safety from a human factors perspective.
The faculty provides excellent instruction and demonstrates enthusiasm when teaching about patient safety. Certainly, the program is a competitive value considering the time and attention you receive coupled with the excellent quality of instruction. Resources for learning are abundant in readings, discussions, and other web-based programs for learning. Access to the VCU online library references, Ovid and Nexus-Lexus, for researching topics of personal interest only enhanced the scholarly process.
I highly recommend the fellowship to all professionals; both clinician and non-clinician, with the desire to learn the “ropes” of patient safety from nationally recognized experts. In fact, I personally funded the entire cost of my fellowship endeavor as my large for-profit hospital system declined to contribute."

"First, the PSF (Patient Safety Fellowship) has been a chance to work with some very, very bright people, both those on the faculty and my classmates. I cannot think of another educational experience that I have had that has exposed me to such varied backgrounds and points of view. Not only have these people been marvelous to learn from, but they have been generous in presenting their own challenges and solutions that all of us face in patient safety.
Second, the PSF has been a wonderful and in depth overview of the complex emerging patient safety. I have used much of the information to help educate staff at my organization, including our new Patient Safety Officer.
All in all, I consider this PSF to have been one of the highlights of my life-long continuing education efforts."

"The Fellowship has been very comprehensive and has been a superb way to collect and summarize all the latest thinking on Patient Safety.
The diverse background of the Course participants has meant that I have learnt so much from them as well as as from my tutors and that is why the best aspect of the Fellowship is the on-line participation and discussion by the participants."
Thank you, Gordon Kerr

"The interaction and feedback from our instructors and our class members was incredibly informative and helpful. I feel that I developed a great foundation in the multiple factors associated with patient safety. The course also helped and continues to help my work as a patient safety officer and my research in teamwork and communication."
