Leadership
The Department of Health Administration provides students with many leadership opportunities. Each MHA class has an executive committee, as well as fundraising, community service and social committees and various other positions. In recent years, fundraising events have ranged from bake sales to consulting projects at local health care organizations. Community service activities have varied from painting Halloween pumpkins with pediatric patients around to traveling to Washington, D.C. to register participants for a walk benefiting the homeless. Social events range from informal gatherings to annual parties celebrating the arrival of new students, Halloween, the holiday season, and the departure of second-year students for their residencies. Students from all programs are members of various professional groups as well, including ACHE, MGMA, and HIMSS. These organizations allow students to be involved with faculty and alumni/ae, other VCU students, the Richmond community, and health care executives. The leadership opportunities available in the Department of Health Administration allow students to participate in a multitude of activities while contributing to the learning experience.
