Profile
Henry Carretta, a research associate and instructor with the Department of Health Administration, has extensive experience working with large administrative and research databases such as: 1) Medicaid Extract and Medicare claims files published by CMS, 2) MCO health insurance claim files for public and privately insured populations, 3) the American Medical Association physician file, 4) state physician licensure files, 5) HCUP hospital discharge files, and 6) U.S. Census data files, Area Resource File, and the American Hospital Association Member Survey file. He is experienced in primary data collection and helped to conduct, implement, and manage three large household surveys. He is familiar with the special considerations for the analysis of survey data and has conducted analysis of the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey. He is an experienced user of SAS®, SPSS®, Stata®, and ArcGIS® software packages.
His primary areas of interest are evaluating quality-of-care using administrative data and epidemiologic surveillance of health services utilization. Other areas of interest include the study of the physician workforce and epidemiological and statistical methodology. He served for three years as a contracted epidemiologist for the Controlling Asthma in the Richmond Metropolitan Area Project (CARMA) and provided consultation and analysis for the Virginia Department of Health, Division of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control.
Mr. Carretta received his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Virginia and a Masters of Public Health from Eastern Virginia Medical School.
