Richard “Dick” C. Kraus

1936 ~ 2006
The Department of Health Administration celebrates the life of Richard “Dick” C. Kraus (MHA 64) who passed away on October 28, 2006.
Mr. Kraus was an accomplished health care administrator for 30 years, 25 of these years spent in Richmond hospitals, including Richmond Memorial Hospital (1963-1970), and the HCA facility which today is known as the Chippenham Campus on the CJW Medical Center. Mr. Kraus worked for HCA & Chippenham Hospital until 1981; for the HCA Houston Division as Vice President 1981 – 1986; for the HCA Virginia Division as Executive Vice President 1986 – 1987; and for HCA as the CEO of Chippenham Medical Center 1987 - 1994.
Mr. Kraus was instrumental in mentoring and supporting the health care leaders of today. Dedicated to his alma mater through many deeds, he was active with the Department and its students serving as Executive in Residence and as Department Adjunct Faculty, as Preceptor to 11 MHA students, as a council member on the Golden Anniversary Advisory Council, and as a fundraising champion for the Department and its students. Due to his efforts, many students have benefited and have learned through opportunities he developed and implemented!
The Department is proud to have known this man and to be able to call him one of its own. The Department’s thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Kraus’s friends, classmates, co-workers, and surviving family members, including his wife, Martha B. Kraus, his wife of 47 years, his two daughters, Stephanie Arnall and Nancy Gray, his sister, Jean Williams, and six grandchildren.
