Alumni/ae Spotlight
Kevin Gravely (MSHA '07)
Kevin O. Gravely, MHSA currently serves as Administrative Manager at Tuckahoe Orthopaedic Associates. There are currently 13 physicians in the physician owned practice, and as assistant manager, Mr. Gravely assists with overseeing the day-to-day operations and manages the 30+ employees. He is responsible for the administrative aspect of the clinic. He coordinates several teams including front desk receptionists, registration coordinators, appointment coordinators, transcriptionists, pre-certification specialists, medical records clerks, and switchboard operators.
Mr. Gravely has 9 years of experience in health care working at both the Children’s Hospital of Richmond and Tuckahoe Orthopaedic Associates, and it was his attraction to the diversity of the job which motivated him to begin working in physician practice management. He has a natural tendency towards operations and enjoys the challenges that each day brings, balancing his time between human resources, patient satisfaction, policy and procedures, IT, mentoring, marketing, etc. He sees preparation as a key to success and is excited and passionate about offering exceptional customer service.
Mr. Gravely aspires to become a COO of a physician practice, single or multi-specialty, with the hope of continuing to advance to CEO. He attributes his success to the skills he developed in the MSHA program and looks fondly back at the opportunity he had to represent VCU at the National Association of Health Services Executives case competition. The team of 3 made it to the semi-finals, and both the program and the case competition experience have provided Mr. Gravely with confidence required of a leader. He offers this advice to current and potential MSHA students: “VCU has provided me with the necessary tools to succeed in this healthcare industry, and I am very proud to be an alumnus of such an awesome program. But remember one thing while going through the program: You may be the one trying to juggle the demands of your job and school, but your family is sacrificing as well. Be sure to make time for them too.”
Mr. Gravely is married to his gorgeous wife of 6 years, Kelli, and they have a beautiful 2-year-old daughter, Kayla.
