(MHA 1987)

By Jenifer Murphy (MHA 2009)

Mr. Lucien Roberts began his career in healthcare administration at Johnston-Willis Hospital as an assistant administrator in 1987.  Following this position he was promoted to Director of Physician Services and remained at Johnston-Willis until 1993.  It was at this time that Mr. Roberts moved to physician practice management as the administrator for Dr. Robert E. Mitchell.  In 1994, Mr. Roberts joined Neurological Associates, Inc. as the Practice Administrator.  Under Mr. Roberts’ leadership, Neurological Associates grew to be one of the largest and most well-respected neurological practices on the East Coast.  In 2007, Mr. Roberts left Neurological Associates to pursue a new career path in consulting.

Mr. Roberts is an active member in several professional and community organizations.  He is a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives.  He was awarded Legislative Liaison of the Year in 1999 from the Medical Group Management Association.  He has also served as both President and on the Board of Directors for both the Virginia Medical Group Management Association and the Richmond Medical Group Managers Association.  Mr. Roberts is also active in many local organizations, including the Medical Society of Virginia, the Central Virginia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the American Heart Association.  But perhaps one of his most distinguished honors is winning a ketchup slogan contest sponsored by Heinz in 2005.

Mr. Roberts is a 1984 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and a 1987 graduate of the MHA Program and remains an active alumnus.  He is married to Amy Rosenbaum Roberts (MHA 88) and resides in Glen Allen, Virginia.
