ABOUT THE FACILITY
Johnston Health, composed of Johnston Medical Center, Smithfield (main campus) and Johnston Medical Center, Clayton (outpatient facility), is seeking a Chief Executive Officer. Staffing 165 beds, JMC, Smithfield has an ADC = 98. The hospital’s service area = 145,000 with 120 active physicians on staff with another 50 in consulting/courtesy roles. 2010 budgeted gross patient revenues = $507 million, net patient revenues = $151 million with A/R days = 60 (net).
In 2008, Johnston Health issued $144.3 million in bonds to reduce existing debt, finance construction of JMC, Clayton, including an Emergency Department, as well as, construction of a five story bed tower on the Smithfield campus. Future plans include a transfer (within the next two years) of 25-28 beds from Smithfield to Clayton, thereby forming two acute care hospitals. THE OPPORTUNITY
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Hospital. This position is accountable for planning, organizing, and directing the hospital to ensure that quality patient care is provided and that the financial integrity of the hospital is maintained. The CEO ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations as well as all policies and procedures set forth by the Governing Board and Medical Staff, and those required by Medicare Survey Standards.
The CEO is responsible for creating an environment and culture that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission by meeting or exceeding its goals, conveying the hospital mission to all staff, holding staff accountable for their performance, motivating staff to improve performance and being responsible for the measurement, assessment and continuous improvement of the hospital's performance.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
• MHA or MBA
• 5 plus years progressive experience in hospital operations as hospital CEO or equivalent
• Strong physician relations and understanding of physician practice management
• Managed care experience, experience and knowledge in quality initiatives

Smithfield is located in central North Carolina off I-95, approximately 45 minutes from Raleigh and one hour from Chapel/Durham. The Research Triangle is within an hour’s drive. The beaches of the Carolinas are within 2 hours and the Appalachian Mountains are within 4 hours. Johnston County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the state.
